We're pleased to announce that Joy Washburn EdD, RN, WHNP-BC will be speaking on Friday of the 2017 Michigan Nursing Summit, October 11-13. Washburn will be speaking on Human Trafficking: Identification, Assessment, Response.
Washburn is an Associate Professor of Nursing at Grand Valley State University, a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner, and a member of HEAL Trafficking. The mission of HEAL Trafficking is to unify and mobilize interdisciplinary health care professionals to shift the anti-trafficking paradigm toward approaches rooted in public health and trauma-informed care. She is a member of the Education subcommittee of HEAL Trafficking and has presented in multiple venues to raise awareness of human trafficking and the role of health care providers in caring for victims of human trafficking.
In addition, Washburn is the driving force behind the development of a clinical simulation at Grand Valley State University where the patient is a probable victim of human trafficking. Since April 2011, approximately 200 pre-licensure BSN students per year participate in this clinical simulation.
