FY 2016 Funding Opportunity Announcement Nurse Faculty Loan Program, HRSA-16-065

The Health Resources and Services Administration’s (HRSA) Bureau of Health Workforce (BHW) has released the FY 2016 Funding Opportunity Announcement for the Nurse Faculty Loan Program (NFLP), HRSA-16-065.

The purpose of the program is to increase the number of qualified nurse faculty. The NFLP is designed to prepare and train qualified nurse educators to fill faculty vacancies and increase the number of trained nurses entering the workforce. This goal is accomplished by supporting schools of nursing that prepare graduates to serve as nurse faculty.

Eligible applicants are schools of nursing. Individuals are not eligible to apply under this funding opportunity; therefore, this notification should not be shared with individuals.

Successful NFLP applicants will demonstrate their capacity to: · Design and implement nursing curriculum, prepare students to apply teaching strategies, and be able to create effective methods for evaluating student learning outcomes. · Identify, recruit and provide NFLP loan support to advanced degree nursing students who are committed to obtaining a nurse faculty position. · Assist NFLP students with obtaining full-time faculty employment after graduation. · Manage a NFLP loan fund. Schools make loans from this fund to assist registered nurses in completing their graduate nursing education to become qualified nurse faculty.

The 2016 NFLP application due date is November 30, 2015.

HRSA expects to award up to 100 grants totaling $22.5 million with a program start date of July 1, 2016.
