Nursing Initiatives
Looking Ahead
As we embark upon our seventh year, the Michigan Center for Nursing looks forward to expanding our current focus on the nursing shortage and implementing new initiatives.
· We will continue to support the efforts of the Office of the Chief Nurse Executive and the work of the taskforce groups.
· The Center will continue to collect nursing workforce data
· The Center will continue the Institutes of Nursing Excellence.
· We will continue to expand the Center’s role in furthering the professional practice of nursing, by creating a Collaborative with a focus on capacity building of nursing leaders and fostering leadership skills among nurse managers
Operational Progress
The Michigan Center for Nursing’s work has positioned us as a leading resource for data and information on Michigan’s nursing shortage. Policy makers, leaders from the business and healthcare communities and the media come to the Center for data, information and insight.
We are fortunate to have a strong Advisory Board, and have worked to expand this body over the last year so that we have not only regional representation but representatives from the many facets of nursing (education, administration, recruitment, service etc). The Center is also fortunate to be housed at the Michigan Health Council, a non-profit located in Okemos, Michigan. The Michigan Center for Health Professions is also housed at the MHC and the MCHP gives us access to and an appreciation for the challenges our colleagues in the healthcare team are facing, which is an excellent source of information and technical assistance.
