Our Vision
Michigan will always have a high-quality nursing workforce that meets the health care needs of its communities.

Our Mission —
The Michigan Center for Nursing will champion actions across the state— through ongoing collaboration, communication, and consensus building— that strengthen the nursing workforce.

Our Goals and Objectives —

  • Goal 1. Develop consensus recommendations for cultivating and maintaining a high-quality nursing workforce that meets the demand for nursing services in Michigan.
    • Objective 1A. Develop a strategic plan that will serve as a catalyst and blueprint for all stakeholders to address the shortage of nurses in Michigan and strengthen the nursing workforce.
    • Objective 1B. Establish an ongoing source of support for monitoring implementation of recommendations.
  • Goal 2. Foster strategic alliances among nurses, educational institutions, health care systems, the business community, and other stakeholders for improvement in the recruitment, education, retention of nurses, and the delivery of health care.
    • Objective 2A. Provide a central forum in Michigan for nurses, their employers, their patients, and the public.
    • Objective 2B. Disseminate available information on and encourage the adoption of best practices in nursing education, recruitment, retention, and delivery of nursing care.
    • Objective 2C. Establish an ongoing source of support for dialogue and dissemination of information. 
  • Goal 3. Establish a central resource for nursing workforce data collection and analysis.
    • Objective 3A. Collect and communicate relevant nursing workforce data to all stakeholders to facilitate strategies for recruitment, education, and retention of a high-quality nursing workforce.
    • Objective 3B. Forecast nursing supply and demand in Michigan, based on nursing workforce data and trends in demographics, economic factors, broad health indicators.
    • Objective 3C. Establish an ongoing source of support for data collection and analysis.

The Michigan Center for Nursing will turn research data into usable information and front line actions. The information so gathered and disseminated, should motivate and activate development of cooperative ventures between and among segments of the industry.

The Michigan Center for Nursing is housed at the Michigan Health Council, a non-profit in Okemos, Michigan.
The mission of the Michigan Health Council, founded in 1943, is to facilitate the education, recruitment and retention of a diverse healthcare workforce by maximizing technology and partnerships.
